Making an Atlanta Apartment Feel Like Home

Atlanta apartments can feel like more that great places to live, they can be a renters sanctuary – home sweet home. Renters should always check with their lease and the landlord before making any changes in their unit. JAMCO residents have the freedom to decorate the interiors of their apartments however they like; however, in order to receive a refund on their security deposit or to avoid additional charges, the apartment must be returned to its original condition.

Living room at Stonetree Apartments

Stonetree Apartments in East Point, GA delivers many unique floor plans to call home.

Start by painting the walls a color you love. Remember, a darker color will be more difficult to cover up when you move. Affordable temporary wall coverings are available if you are not allowed to paint. Use the walls of your Atlanta apartment to display photographs, art and collections. Choose furniture and art you love and invest in them now. Why wait until you own a home to live comfortably? You can take these treasures with you when you move out of your Atlanta apartment.

Next, unpack all your stuff. The quickest way to make an Atlanta apartment feel like home is to surround yourself with your things. Have you been lugging that one box from apartment to apartment never to be unpacked? Consider whether those items are essential and if they are not: donate, recycle or throw them out. Once the last box is empty, renters will quickly feel at home.

JAMCO Properties, Inc. serves up metro Atlanta apartments with unique floor plans that our residents love to call home.

Oversized Furniture in Small Spaces

The Lexington Apartments just south of Atlanta in East Point, GA have a wide range of spacious floor plans for every budget. The large bedrooms accomodate every need. If you haven’t found the perfect home in metro Atlanta they wanted to share the tips below for moving large furninture into a small space:

Prepare:

Measure the length and width of the bed and other large pieces of bedroom furniture. Use a pen or pencil to write these numbers down on a notepad; you’ll need them for reference. Measure the length and width of the room so you know exactly how much space you have to place the furniture. Make a note of outlets at this time, too. Lamps and alarm clocks need to be placed on suitable furniture (dressers or tables) near the outlets.

Place:

A bed is usually the piece of bedroom furniture that takes up the most room. Once you know where the bed will be situated, you’ll find it easier to place other furniture. Lie down in the bed as though you were sleeping. If you are comfortable with the bed’s angle and placement, keep it there. There should be enough room alongside the bed to easily get up in the morning (or in the middle of the night) without bumping into things.

Place the next largest piece of furniture in the room, which is probably the dresser. Keep enough space between the dresser and other items to access all drawers. Likewise, if you are placing a desk in the room, leave room for the desk chair.

Place smaller items, like nightstands and wall decor, in the room last. It’s easier to manipulate these smaller items to make them fit than it is to place large pieces. You can also choose to eliminate a few of the small items.

Practice:

Leave the room and come back in. Pretend you are going to the furniture items: You are going to bed, for example, or retrieving something from the dresser. If you must work to avoid bumping into table corners or other pieces of furniture, you may need to arrange the room a bit differently.

Atlanta Wedding Tips for Tiny Budgets

Atlanta brides can earn big savings by planning early. Decide in advance which elements of your wedding are most important to you and make your investment there. Also, look at some of these tips from The Village at Wesley Chapel apartments:

Simplify The devil is in the details. Cut back on what doesn’t mean so much to you, so you can invest in what does.

Cut the guest list. If your guest list is 150 try scaling it back to 100. Think about who you will remember 10 years from now when you look over the wedding album.

Drop the open bar. Offer a specialty drink that means something and sparkling wine. Most people don’t keep cash anymore, so a cash bar probably is out dated.

Set Trends for anything. Remember there are two of you. Tell the story of you as a couple. Don’t get lost in the craziness.

Crafty Apartment Decor for Any Budget

Apartment Lighting Ambient lighting, task lighting, accent lighting all have purpose in an apartment rental. Floor lamps brighten a dark corner while plug-in sconces can add a dramatic accent. Plug-in lights under cabinetry makes tasks more simple.

Pillow Pile Fun throw pillow bring lots of color and pattern into an apartment. Use many of them to create comfort and beauty. Covers can be made or purchased to change your look when you’re ready.

Curtain Trick Introduce a rental to luxury with gorgeous drapes. Hanging several sets of drapes along a wall is an apartment-approved way to give your walls personality without the permanency of wallpaper or paint. It also gives the illusion that there are windows hidden behind the drapes, rather than just an expanse of blank walls and one tiny window.

Mirror Illusion Mirrors are a great trick for expanding small spaces. They also reflect light to brighten a home. Place a large mirror across from a window, so it is in a prime position to receive natural light and reflect it back into the room.

Floor Coverings Apartment rentals are notorious for poor finishes, like the carpet. If your apartment’s carpet is not up to par, fill the space with a large rug. Rugs are also a great way to define space that may serve different functions in different parts.

Paint Options Paint your furniture, when you can’t paint your walls. A new paint job on a bed frame, night stand, bookcase, or coffee table can update the piece and splash color into your rental. Small cans of paint are affordable and available in every color imaginable.

Gallery Display Floating shelves show off collections and decor. Basic shelves serve as a strong basis for rotating displays. You can change your place’s look, leaving the shelves in place and avoid making any more holes in your apartment walls.

Moving Tips

Relocating to a new place is both exciting and stressful. Deciding where everything goes and planning the layout of your new apartment or house is fun, but a lot of labor goes into packing and moving. Plan ahead to limit your headaches. Then use the following guidelines on moving day.

uhaul

7 Moving Day Tips

  1. Move on a weekday when leasing offices, banks, utilities, and government offices are open. Additionally, truck rentals are more affordable during the week according to U-Haul.
  2. Begin packing as early as 2 months before moving day. Out of season clothing, seasonal decorations, fine china, books, a movie collection… these are all things you can pack early. Having a stack of boxes around for 8 weeks might not sound like a fun, but it will save you so much stress.
  3. Label your boxes by room and general content. If you’ve hired professional movers or if you’ve asked friends to help, this will help them know where things go in your new house or apartment.
  4. Place your plates standing on edge in the box. Wrap each in plenty of paper and pad the bottom of your box. This will help prevent damage to your dishes. For all your boxes be sure to fill the empty space with paper or padding so that they will not collapse.
  5. Pack large items in small boxes and small items in large boxes. Heavy large items will fall through the center of a large box and small light items can be safely stacked in larger boxes. The exception is books. Heavy books should be packed in small boxes so you can lift them.
  6. On moving day, leave your pets and small children with a friend. Movers, professional or otherwise are distracted by kids and barking dogs. Plus, this insures the safety of children and pets alike.
  7. Finally, remember the last thing you packed? It’s probably the first thing you want to unpack! You were using it right up to the last-minute because you need it. Maybe it was cleaning supplies, maybe it was bedding, maybe it was a toothbrush… Chances are it was important.

Atlanta, a different kinda winter

It’s not the heat that gets you, it’s the humidity we say in Atlanta. All summer long the a/c works overtime keeping the metro area cool and dry. BUT winter in Georgia affords its residents the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors without freezing. It’s a different kinda winter wonderland.

SOUTHEASTERN ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW: Where else but the south can you hold an annual flower show in February? The Southeastern Annual Flower Show celebrates a milestone 25th anniversary in 2013 at Cobb Galleria this time. While the location isn’t downtown the trip from Riverside Townhomes in Austell or anywhere in the metro Atlanta area is well worth it if you love plants in their full bloom beauty and need your winter fix. Contact the Southeastern Horticulture Society for details.

SNOW MOUNTAIN at STONE MOUNTAIN: The weather man says it will be sunny with a high of 55, what do you do? Head over to Stone Mountain Park where they have created a true winter wonderland without the frosty temperature. The entire family can take part in a multitude of snow based activities with areas dedicated for smaller children and kids at a heart. Maybe warm up at SnoFire Point with hot cocoa and s’mores.

ICE SKATING at CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC PARK: What guests don’t find at Sno Mountain is ice skating, but the ATL has you covered. Just $10 gets you time on the ice and skate rentals at Centennial Olympic Park.  Open until January 27th the rink offers student and group discount specials.

Experience warm tropical environments or bust out the winter gear from storage. A different kinda winter awaits you here.
