The race begins at 7:30 a.m. and follows a route from Lenox Square Mall to Piedmont Park. Spectators are encouraged to ride MARTA. Bands will provide live music at several locations along the route with plenty of vendors offering food, beverages and souvenirs. A map and wave start times can be found here.

Gardening in Atlanta Apartments

Maybe you have always wanted to try gardening in your Atlanta apartment, or maybe you have tried with no luck; either way, finding your green thumb is easier than it seems if you take things slow and find the right kind of apartment gardening style for you and your apartment home. Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Read the Label

Some plants do better in bright spaces, while others do better in a generally dark room. Depending on where you intend to keep your plant (inside your Atlanta apartment or on your apartment patio / balcony), choosing a plant that fits your desired space is ideal. The label also explains what kind of potting soil your plant needs and how often it needs to be watered. The good news for a first-time apartment gardener is that some plants are hard to kill – so those plants are good to start off with in Atlanta apartments.

Keep Pets Safe

If you have a pet in your Atlanta apartment, it is necessary to do some research regarding plants, as many tend to be harmful for dogs and cats. Part of successful apartment gardening is the ability to distinguish whether or not your environment is ideal for a plant. The ASPCA provides information regarding which plants are toxic and non-toxic to animals. You can pick depending on what type of pet you have, since some plants can be toxic to dogs but not cats.

Find the Right Pot

Some pots have holes at the bottom for draining and others don’t. Although it may be better to have a hole for draining, some plants, such as bamboo, don’t need holes for draining because they prefer to retain moisture. There are a wide variety of decorative pots, which include recycled items like tea and coffee cans, geometric glass terrariums, ceramic pots and more. Using your plants to decorate your Atlanta apartment may be the most exciting aspect of having a green thumb!

Keep Up with It

If you found the right plant for you, your apartment and maybe your pet, and you have planted your plant in your favorite pot, don’t forget about it! A big aspect of apartment gardening is taking care of your plant just as you would with a pet. Ensure your plant gets a sufficient amount of lighting during the day (maybe it needs to be moved from time to time), water it but don’t over water it, and last but not least, re-pot it when necessary. Some plants outgrow their pot and need to be replanted into a larger pot.

Start by painting the walls a color you love. Remember, a darker color will be more difficult to cover up when you move. Affordable temporary wall coverings are available if you are not allowed to paint. Use the walls of your Atlanta apartment to display photographs, art and collections. Choose furniture and art you love and invest in them now. Why wait until you own a home to live comfortably? You can take these treasures with you when you move out of your Atlanta apartment.

Next, unpack all your stuff. The quickest way to make an Atlanta apartment feel like home is to surround yourself with your things. Once the last box is empty, renters will quickly feel at home.

Atlanta Apartments: Cross-country Moves

Relocating cross-country offers its own set of challenges. Once you’ve searched the listings for Atlanta apartments and selected the right apartment community and floor plan it is time to start planning your move. Beginning well in advance of the big day is the #1 moving tip offered by professional leasing specialists.

First, renters need to choose how they want to move. Can you transport all your belongings to Atlanta in your own vehicle? Probably not but you have a couple options: rent a moving truck for DIY moving or hire a professional moving company. Either way, making this decision early can save you money by earning discounts.

Next, make an inventory list of everything you are moving to your new Atlanta apartment. Whether you hire professionals or do it yourself, knowing what you have and in which box it is stored will help you find everything when you unpack in Atlanta. This is a good time to sell or donate items you don’t want to move!

Another good idea is to insure the stuff you are moving especially if you have hired professional movers. This is a recommendation for all movers regardless of distance, but cross-country moves mean more time and longer distances over which your possessions can be lost or damaged.

Once you arrive at your final destination, your Atlanta apartment, plan on taking your time to unpack. If possible, take a few days off work to settle into the new layout. When unpacking becomes tedious, step outside to explore your new surroundings. Metro Atlanta has lots to offer its residents!

Making the Most of Small Floor Plans, Atlanta Apartments

Not all Atlanta apartments are created with equal square footage, but apartment residents can get the most out of their floor plans with 5 simple tips for living in a small space.

  1. Household items used on a daily basis can make beautiful decorations when displayed. Shiny copper pots arranged on the stove in the kitchen are a great example. In a child’s bedroom, treasured toys can be left out while you make use of “under the bed” storage for more unsightly items.
  2. A spacious living room can be made out of a tiny layout with a few personal touches. Art and books do not necessarily mean clutter when properly displayed and they can open up the entire world inside any Atlanta apartment.
  3. Of course, apartment dwellers know that less is more. Getting rid of things you don’t use can mean big bucks in your pocket. Selling items of value and donating the rest will help keep closets and storage areas organized.
  4. Clean, well organized Atlanta apartments feel bright and roomy. It is important to de-clutter and clean especially in a small floor plan. Not only will your home feel and smell better but cleaning will reduce the risk of pests inside too.
  5. Finally, remember that light is a great way to make an apartment seem larger. Well-placed mirrors can double the natural light in a space. Even without tons of natural light, residents can include light colored furniture, linens and window coverings to open up their apartment.

Running from Piedmont Park through the Virginia Highlands to Inman Park and the historic Old Fourth Ward, the Eastside Trail is open from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and makes an easy commute for Atlanta residents. According to the Beltline.org blog the path is 2.25 miles long and follows Atlanta’s old rail corridor. Not only is commuting on the Eastside Trail a green form of transportation, but their blog reports that construction of the pedestrian and bicycle roadway removed 1700 tons of contaminated soil and allowed for the planting of over 600 trees by Trees Atlanta.

Just like living in Atlanta apartments requires being a courteous neighbor, residents on the Atlanta Beltline can follow a few guidelines for walking, running and riding on the Eastside Trail:   Tips for keeping life courteous, safe, and clean on the Eastside Trail // Atlanta BeltLine.

Settling in Your New Pet Friendly Atlanta Apartment

Moving into a new Atlanta apartment is a very exciting time for everyone in your family including your pets. The excitement of a new place can be stressful for cats and dogs alike. Pets are welcome at all of JAMCO Properties, Inc. 21 Atlanta apartment communities. Here are some great tips from the Humane Society of The United States to help you and your dog or cat adjust to the new layout.Pet Friendly Apartments Now Leasing at JAMCO Properties

First, plan on moving into your apartment on a weekend or when you can be home with your pet for the first few days. Get to know the floor plan and spend some quality time together. Next, maintain your normal routine. Is the office farther away? Will you spend more time away from home because of traffic or other factors? Minimize the changes in your schedule that occur as a result of your new Atlanta apartment.

In the beginning, consider confining your cat to a single room with all their things. And now is a good time to consider a crate for your dog. Because dogs instinctively live in dens, he will think this is his own spacious bedroom! Remember, dogs require an active lifestyle to be healthy. Just a few hours in the crate each day will prevent it from becoming a jail cell.

Finally, be patient. Pet friendly Atlanta apartments make great homes for everyone once they are settled.
